Regulation from İzmir Ekonomi That Will Put Students in a Difficult Position

Official titleİzmir Ekonomi University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education Regulations

The new regulation of İzmir Ekonomi University governing associate degree and undergraduate education, examination, registration, graduation, and freeze-of-registration processes, excluding the Faculty of Medicine, has been published.

Before

The İzmir Ekonomi University Associate and Bachelor Degree Education and Examination Regulation numbered 28536 dated 22/1/2013 was in entry into force.

After

Starting from the beginning of the fall semester of the 2026-2027 academic year, new regulation rules will be applied.

Details of the Regulation

This regulation repeals the former regulation dated 2013, restructuring the associate degree and undergraduate education processes at İzmir Ekonomi University. Within the scope of the regulation, term course load limits (standard 32 ECTS, up to a maximum of 48 ECTS with additional credits for successful students), attendance requirements, passive student status, conditions for freezing registration due to justifiable excuses, and maximum periods of study (4 years for associate degree, 7 years for undergraduate degree) have been clarified. Furthermore, final-term exam rights and additional exam opportunities have been regulated for students who have failed courses at the graduation stage or who fail to meet the 2.00 CGPA requirement.

REGAS Commentary

This regulation facilitates the process, particularly by granting final-term exam rights to students at the graduation stage and offering successful students the flexibility to increase their course load. However, the fact that students who do not renew their registration will be placed in passive status and these periods will be deducted from the maximum duration, and that a medical report is not considered an excuse in case of absenteeism, are critical risk factors for students.

Questions You Might Have

Can I fail due to absenteeism while I have a medical report?
Yes, according to the new regulation, having a medical report or a medical board report does not eliminate the attendance obligation, and the student is considered absent on the dates covered by the report.
How many failed courses at most can I take an additional exam for in the final year in order to graduate?
Students who cannot fulfill the graduation requirements because they received FF or FD grades in at most two courses are granted a one-time final-term exam right.
