Compensation Rates in Livestock Farming Have Changed
Official titleRegulation on the Amendment of the Regulation on Compensation for Animal Diseases
With the amendment made to the Regulation on Compensation for Animal Diseases, the procedures for mandatory slaughter and compensation payments arising from tuberculosis and brucellosis diseases have been re-regulated.
Details of the Regulation
With the amendment made, the compensation rates and conditions to be paid for animals contracting tuberculosis and brucellosis diseases have been updated. In tuberculosis disease, while nine-tenths of the value continues to be paid as compensation for animals outside of enterprises with disease-free status, this rate has been determined as three-fourths for animal carcasses in which the disease is detected at slaughterhouses. Furthermore, for brucellosis disease, the compensation payment criteria based on bacteriological and serological examination results have also been clarified.
Certain subparagraphs in the old regulation have been repealed, and the process has been given a technical structure by specifically differentiating between cattle, sheep, and goat species. This regulation aims to increase the effectiveness of the compensation mechanism in combating disease and to ensure uniformity in implementation.
For animal owners, more precise criteria (disease-free enterprise status, testing method, slaughter location) will now be taken as the basis in compensation calculations. With these provisions, the Ministry has redefined the financial responsibilities in the disease control process.

REGAS Commentary
Livestock breeders must now pay closer attention to technical details such as 'disease-free enterprise' status and slaughter location in order to receive compensation in the event that tuberculosis or brucellosis is detected in their animals. In particular, the regulation regarding the carcass compensation rate (75%) obliges producers to plan their slaughter processes in accordance with the provisions of the regulation.
